Dominion Boulevard Bridge

The American Public Works Association (APWA) Mid-Atlantic Chapter has awarded the Contractor of the Year Award to Dominion Boulevard Constructors, the Joint-Venture between Branch Civil, Inc., Bryant Contracting, Inc, R.R. Dawson Bridge Company, LLC, and McLean Contracting Company formed for the completion of the Dominion Boulevard Project in Chesapeake, Virginia. The award was presented during the APWA Mid-Atlantic Chapter Conference and Equipment Show in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

The project consisted of replacing an existing two-lane draw span steel bridge with two parallel, two-lane, 95-foot high-rise fixed span bridges over the Elizabeth River and Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. The project also included widening the existing Dominion Boulevard from two lanes to four lanes along a 3.8-mile corridor, and installation of a state-of-the-art open road tolling system.

The project, owned by the City of Chesapeake, also received the Project of the Year Award in the category of Transportation – more than $75 million, as well as the Consultant of the Year Award to MBP, who provided construction management and inspection services on behalf of the City.

Branch Civil is pleased to have been involved with this project which not only consists of a $345 Million major corridor improvement project but also gave us an opportunity to put our mission of building legacies for a thriving future into action.
