Commuters on a busy stretch of highway in Woodbridge, VA, are enjoying smoother and faster travel times upon the completion of a road-widening project on the Prince William Parkway.

As the lead contractor, Branch Civil provided Design-Build, utilities and environmental services for the widening of a 1.8-mile section of the parkway from four lanes to six lanes between Old Bridge Road and Minnieville Road. This portion of roadway was notorious for not only rush-hour and lunchtime backups during the week, but also for congestion on the weekends as shoppers made their way to the nearby, popular Potomac Mills Mall.

Branch Civil completed the $17.8M project on schedule and within budget. Included in the project scope were oversight, survey design, the right of way acquisition, utility relocation and quality control.

The improved section of parkway provides pedestrians and bicyclists with a safer journey as well, following the construction of a 10-ft. wide bike path on the north side of the road and a 5-ft. wide sidewalk on the south side.
