Work in Progress

An innovative intersection design is the hallmark of a $60M highway project in Norfolk which will lead to smoother and safer traffic flow on one of the city’s busiest roads.

Branch Civil is providing Design-Build and heavy civil construction services in partnership with Corman Construction for this project designed to ease the congestion and perils of left turns at the intersection of Military Highway and Northampton Boulevard.  More than 60,000 cars pass through this intersection each day.

The Continuous Flow Intersection (CFI) will be one of the first of its kind in Virginia.  The CFI will allow left turns and through traffic to happen simultaneously, which is expected to result in a 30 percent increase in capacity and reduce crash rates.

The project also features the widening of a portion of Military Highway from four lanes to eight lanes, and the widening of Northampton Boulevard and Princess Anne Road from a four-lane roadway to a six-lane divided roadway.  Both widening projects will include curb, gutter and sidewalk installation.

The project is slated for completion in spring 2018.
