A major artery that is very important to the City of Virginia Beach is now easier and safer to navigate, following a $7 M widening and improvement project.

Wesleyan Drive serves as the only route leading to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel and is the only access road for a preparatory academy and Virginia Wesleyan University.

Branch Civil served as the lead contractor for the widening of the road from two to four lanes between Baker Road and the Virginia Beach/Norfolk city line, and from the city line to Northampton Boulevard. Improvements included using the existing roadway for the two eastbound lanes and extending north for the westbound lanes.

Another major component of the project was the transformation of a typical flat piece of land into an impressive, well-built retention pond. The wet pond required 13,000 cubic yards of soil and 54,00 square yards of pond liner.

The Branch Civil project team worked closely with both schools to ensure the safety of the children and college student and conducted regular community updates to citizens living in a nearby residential community. The road improvements were completed nearly a month ahead of schedule and with zero lost time accidents.
